This Ramadan, seven-year-old Zara Aaliyah Nazrudin is taking an enormous step in her religious journey. For the first time, she is collaborating in her full fast, from daybreak to dusk. Zara has seemed ahead to fasting through the holy month as it is a vital ceremony of passage for her.

“Daddy wakes me up at 5am for sahur. Throughout fasting month, I sleep by eight.30pm so I can wake up in time for sahur. Sahur is enjoyable because I get to eat some of my favorite breakfast treats like smoothies, fruits and pastries. I feel like an grownup as I get to eat with my mother and father,” says Zara, the eldest of three siblings.

Zara has been doing partial fasts since she was 4 years previous. She first started out with half day fasts, lasting from sahur until midday. Last yr, she fasted till 3pm. It’s been over every week since she began doing a full quick, and thus far she has accomplished properly.

This Ramadan, Sheahnee and Nazrudin have encouraged their second youngster, five-year-old Zakry Aiman, to fast for half a day, from dawn till 1pm. Both youngsters have coped properly with none complaints.

“Fortunately, they have been fasting pretty nicely. Though they’re typically lethargic by mid-afternoon, they are in good spirits and go about their traditional actions without a lot problem,” says Nazrudin, including that fasting isn’t merely about depriving oneself of food and water but in addition cleansing the mind and soul from adverse thoughts and emotions.
