Low vitamin A linked to beta cell decline in mice

A brand new study has found that a lack of vitamin A may be linked to beta cell dysfunction and impaired insulin manufacturing in mice.The research, which appeared within the Endocrine Journal, exhibits that vitamin A binds to receptors, referred to as GPRC5C, on the surface of beta cells.

A staff of researchers on the College of Lund, in Sweden, got down to find out why. What they’ve discovered is that blocking the GPR5C receptors in beta cells from mice hampered their means to secrete applicable quantities of insulin.

In a separate research, researchers examined whether flattening those receptors had comparable effects in people.

They isolated beta cells derived from donors with and with out type 2 diabetes and proceeded to block GPR5C receptors, but only partially.
