Here’s why a can of Diet Coke floats while a regular Coke sinks

Posted on

A can of Coca-Cola and a can of Diet Coke would be the exact same size, but something magical happens when you put them in water. The diet beverage floats, but the regular one sinks.

While both have the same amount of liquid in them, the densities are different.

That is because a regular Coke contains 39 g of sugar, which makes it less dense than water.

On the other hand, a Diet Coke is less dense that water as it is made with an artificial sweetener instead, reducing the grams of sugar.
