MEREDITH — Central New Hampshire Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice and Moulton Farm are offering free blood pressure checks and tips on healthy eating on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. While there, you can get tips on how to enjoy healthy food fresh from their fields.
Did you know, for instance, that leafy greens and red beets help lower blood pressure? It’s true. Leafy greens like kale and beet greens, both available currently at the farm, are high in potassium which helps your kidneys eliminate the sodium in your body. This in turn lowers your blood pressure. Beets are high in nitric oxide which helps open blood vessels, once again lowering blood pressure, sometimes as quickly as within 24 hours.
