Doctors, pharmacists clash over hypertension medication in South Korea

“It happens when the prescribed medicine is off the market, or sold out in the country. We’ve been asking for a system change so that prescriptions can be issued in a more transparent manner and all patients get the option to choose more affordable medicines.”

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said some 178,500 patients will be able to get new prescriptions or obtain new medicine to replace some 100 drugs known to contain the Chinese-made Valsartan.

Those affected account for 2.9 percent of the country’s 6 million hypertension patients.
