Eat your five fruit and vegetables a day

Fruit and vegetables are a crucial food group for diabetes patients.

They’re rich in vitamins and fibre, which help you to feel fuller for longer.

“Aim for at least five portions of fruit and veg a day,” said Diabetes UK.

“You and your family will get the range of vitamins, minerals and fibre you need to eat well. Choose seasonal produce to cut costs.”

Add more beans to your diet

“Beans, lentils and pulses are low in fat, high in fibre, cheap to buy and packed with nutrients.

“They don’t have a big impact on blood glucose and may help to control blood fats such as cholesterol.”
