Controlling hypertension reduces dementia risk

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – It’s no secret high blood pressure increases your risk of heart disease. But new research shows it can have a serious detrimental effect on your brain in ways you may not realize.

Inadequate blood flow to the brain has long been linked to interfering with mental processes. As Eyewitness News Healthbeat Reporter Mark Hiller explains, a study now suggests high blood pressure left unchecked may result in some of the primary markers of Alzheimer’s disease.
