Change in diet could put diabetes in remission

“We always knew of patients that have lost weight by using lifestyle changes, by exercising, (their) diabetes control has gotten a lot better and some people have been able to stop medications and some people have been able to stop insulin but it doesn’t mean they don’t require it back,” said Dr. Chaitanya Mamillapalli, with Springfield Clinic Endocrinology.

Health professionals said if a person has been dealing with diabetes for an extended period they are less likely to put it in remission.

They also said everyone is different and before undergoing a lifestyle change like this, talk to your healthcare provider.
