IF you’re about to enter a troublesome negotiation you may need to eat an additional slice of toast for breakfast. Researchers found that those who have eaten plenty of bread, cereal or other carbohydrates are much less more likely to accept a nasty deal – and would fairly stroll away – than those who eat breakfasts lower in carbs and better in protein. To elucidate why food can have an effect on our temper, researchers measured chemical compounds within the blood of individuals who ate low-carb and high-carb breakfasts.
They found those who had eaten more carbs firstly of the day had larger levels of dopamine, the brain’s “reward” chemical which may produce emotions of happiness.
