A little background on the keto diet if you haven’t been following along at home: It’s short for “ketogenic,” and promotes weight loss through a diet low in carbohydrates (less than 20 grams a day), high in protein, and moderately high in fat—picture a dinner plate featuring a salmon filet, a mound of broccoli, and a drizzle of olive oil.
Instagram alone has a wealth of keto-focused hashtags that highlight crazy keto transformations (#ketotransformation and #ketofam, to name a few). And if the below photos don’t spark your keto-interest, some of the captions definitely will.

Of course, celebs are pretty crazy for it too—s/o Halle Berry, Kourtney Kardashian, and Vanessa Hudgens, to name a few. But honestly, these real-person transformations are where it’s at (they may even tempt you into stocking up on avocados, lean meats, and cheese the next time you’re at the grocery store).
Something to keep in mind if you are (or this story makes you) keto-curious: the diet isn’t exactly meant to be long-term, according to Scott Keatley, R.D., of Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy. (It’s a little too restrictive for that—literally so much meat and cheese.) You should also check with your doctor before starting any new diet plan.
